Its execution is unique and exhibits enough surprises to give players a memorable adventurous experience. While many will be familiar with these themes, Ion Lands succeeded in effectively blending them into their own compelling storyline. Subjects like social stratification, powerful dubious corporations, cybernetic implants, artificial intelligence and androids are all part of the package. Its neo-noir plot includes a healthy dose of themes that are loved by fans of the cyberpunk genre. Luckily, Cloudpunk’s story is no slouch either. It’s easily one of my favorite game characters of 2020. Her tough, cynical, sarcastic attitude is unmistakably charming and perfectly brought to life by her voice actress. This also extends to the game’s playable protagonist Rania. Most characters you meet during your deliveries are immensely entertaining, because of the lovely creativity and humor within their portrayals. The fact that many characters feel more alive than most games featuring fully animated ones, is a testament to the solid writing and voice acting put on display by developer Ion Lands. It accomplishes its characterization purely through voice acting and dialogue boxes featuring a low-resolution avatar of their portrayal.
Sometimes you do meet them in person, but even on those occasions players only meet a stylized three-dimensional pixelated version of them.
Ironically, it barely lets you show its characters in the flesh. The game utilizes uniquely portrayed characters, excellent written dialogue, great voice acting and a skillfully designed futuristic city for serving players an unforgettable journey. It’s not the gameplay nor the premise that forms the game’s main attraction. The story lets you experience your first night at the job of collecting and delivering packages as well as passengers.

In Cloudpunk you play as Rania, a woman who immigrated to the rain-drenched city of Nevalis and started her first night on the job as a delivery driver for a semi-legal company called Cloudpunk. Cloudpunk, and its City of Ghosts DLC for that matter, serves the player only some essential gameplay mechanics and offers something much more exciting in return: a good story and a well-executed narrative. If you are the kind of person that comes up with this black and white conclusion, then I kindly suggest removing your short-sighted head from your tightly squeezed butt.Īdventurous Me has grown sick and tired of lengthy time-wasting open world games and craves for a streamlined focused adventure.

Sure, you can upgrade your car, decorate your apartment and scavenge the city for collectibles on foot, but the core gameplay remains a simplistic affair. When playing Cloudpunk for a few hours, you could argue that you do nothing more than traversing a futuristic city in your flying car and delivering packages or passengers from one place to another.
Does this mean Cloudpunk is a poor man’s Cyberpunk or can the latter learn a thing or two from its smaller indie cousin? Adventurous Me Being developed by a small German indie studio means its production and marketing budget were nowhere near that of Cyberpunk. Therefore, chances are that you may have missed that other futuristic cyberpunk themed title released months before it: Cloudpunk. Everyone has a story, and in the course of one night in Nivalis, everything will change.After a lot of hype, Cyberpunk 2077 finally revealed its fat egotistical punk face at the end of last year. In this story-based exploration game, you will meet a diverse range of characters including androids, AI and unscrupulous humans at every level of society. No delivery job is too dangerous, and no one is faster than a Cloudpunk driver. You go everywhere, from the Marrow below to the spires that pierce the grey clouds high above before scraping the edge of the troposphere. This is your first night working for Cloudpunk, the semi-legal delivery company based in the sprawling city of Nivalis.
